When did your passion for the pinup scene start?

Well, it all started back when I was a little girl growing up around such strong wielded women who dressed glamorously every day and I think from then on their fashions soon evolved into the style and the way I dress today. My family has also had a massive influence on me and all things retro because my grandad was a classic car collector which is where my love for Holden classics derived from as well. Officially in 2010 my daughter and I attended our first pinup/kustom culture event, ‘Cooly Rocks ON’ a fabulous 50’s nostalgia festival held in Coolangatta Qld and it was there where Temanu and I truly became exposed to the pinup scene and all things related to vintage styling and the icons of the Hollywood era.

What kind of style are you influenced by?

Looking back through decades of style and the history of fashion, I’ve come to find my own style through eccentric designs and iconic female actresses. The styles from Vogue magazines of Dior’s ‘New look’ of the mid 50’s as well as on screen fashions from Hollywood glamour. Accessories are a must have and hats and gloves are a major obsession of mine, particularly unique detailed or beaded ones ah gets me every time.

Who is most influential to your style?

The everyday women of the 40’s and 50’s eras all carried such confidence and poise are is the most influential to my style. Though, the elegance of Doris Day and Betty Grable’s youthfulness resonate most with the way I dress on a day to day basis by recreating their style with my added flair. These women to me were the stardom of post ww11 and continue to influence into today’s fashions and reproductive clothing.

What is your favourite era?

Most definitely the 1940’s, though this time was also when nicer designer items became replaced with clothing coupon codes and rationed fabrics, the designs of the mid 40’s become one of the most flattering for all body types. The introduction of pleats and simpler printed fabrics gave clothing items longer wear and versatility. My wardrobe is filled with some of my favourite 40’s dresses, pants, accessories and winter fur coats.

What are your Top 5 must have items for being the pinup you are?

1. Lipstick: Most definitely a staple in my life I couldn’t live without it! In red of course as it is the most iconic shade and compliments any outfit day or night. My favourite is the ‘MAC Cosmetics’ in Ruby Woo

2. Hairspray: Flyaways are my worst enemy and hairspray does just the trick, Cedal is my favourite brand of hairspray and it has a super hold and easy to brush out plus it even comes in a travel size perfect for touch ups throughout the day.

3. Suavecita Pomade: To make any hairstyle look smooth and stay in place all day, I swear by my trusty pomade it works wonders!!

4. Sunglasses: As simple as they are they serve a great and beneficial purpose in protecting your eyes from the radiance of the sun. I prefer big cat eye shaped glasses in black to match with any and every outfit.

5. A vintage hat: I am my own victim to owning a little too many hats, but they match with everything and compliment any outfit so well and also shape your face and is an added accessory. Platter hats and fedoras are my two favourite styles and anything intricate is such a selling point to me.

Tell us about your makeup routine and how long it takes you?

On average my makeup takes me around 25-35 minutes depending if I decided to include eyeliner that day! I tend to mainly focus on the eye area to accentuate the shape of my eye and add definition by layering brown coloured eyeshadow and having a smokey lower lash line for a more dramatic look. I have fairly light eyebrows and eyelashes so whenever possible I treat myself to a brow tint and eyelash tint to make the makeup look more natural and lasting. Concealer is my best friend when it comes to makeup, it highlights, covers dark circles, cares out eyebrows it is just a magical product when it comes to doing my makes and my favourite concealer always has been is the Maybelline instant age rewind concealer super creamy and blendable!

How do you set and style your hair?

A simple wet set can last me days! When I want defined curls sponge rollers are my go to because you’re applying any heat to your hair or damaging it plus you have a tightly formed curl that is long lasting. Setting lotions are another amazing product to make life so much easier and Suavecita grooming spray is one of my personal faves! My hair length is on the longer side then traditional horseshoe cuts at the shoulder, so I tend to stay away from brush outs and create more updo/everyday hairstyles such as a front barrel roll added with a silk scarf.

What's your best kept secret?

I’m more of an open book kinda person! Not much of a secret but something that is important is skincare and treating your skin well. Exfoliating and moisturizing daily keeps me feeling refreshed throughout the day and ads and added glow to my skin which is always nice.
